The Aetna HDHP PPO works just like a traditional PPO plan in that members can seek care from the provider of their choice, whether in or out of the plan’s network. Just like a traditional PPO, there is no requirement that you select a PCP or obtain referrals to specialists – you have the freedom of choice to control how you access health care services. However, the HSA plan is one of a new generation of plans known as “consumer driven health care plans,” or CDHPs for short. CDHPs combine a high deductible PPO style health plan with an underlying Health Savings Account (HSA).
